    For Indians travelling to Suriname, the type of visa depends on the purpose of visit. Tourist visas/ cards are for those travelling to Suriname for sightseeing only, and is valid for 90 days. Business visas are for Indian citizens travelling to Suriname on work or business purposes, and Is valid for upto 90 days.

    The expiry date of your visa is printed on your visa sticker. You can use the visa to enter Suriname starting from the date of issue printed left above in your visa until the expiry date, right above. A Visa does not determine the length of stay permitted. On arrival the a short term stay is granted by the Immigration in Suriname. The vadlity is generally issued for up to 3 months.

  • add From when is my visa valid?

    Your visa is valid from the date your visa was issued. It should not be considered from the date of entry into Suriname.

  • add What is the difference between a tourist visa and tourist card?

    A Tourist visa is processed at the Embassy/Consulate and can be applied for in advance and from anywhere. It applies to Indian citizens.
    Tourist cards are issued for citizens of selective countries only and can be obtained at the Embassy of Suriname or on arrival at J.A.P. International Airport or at the borders in Albina and South Drain, Nickerie.
    These card are only issued for tourism purpose, whereas tourist visa is issued for several purposes.

  • add I want to stay in Suriname longer than 90 days. Can I extend my visa in Suriname?

    No, it is not possible. If you wish to stay longer than 90 days and you are not of Surinamese origin, you have to apply for a "Authorization for Temporary Stay ("MKV") three months in advance.

    Applicants must consider a waiting period of a minimum of two weeks.

  • add My passport is 2 days short of the required validity of 6 months on arrival in Suriname and I have to travel due to an emergency. Can I obtain a visa?

    No, your passport has to be valid at least (minimum) 6 months on arrival. You may travel on an emergency passport with a validity of 6 months.

    According to the Embassy of Suriname, passports need to be submitted only after approval of the Embassy. This is usually communicated through phone or email.

1. Transit visa

This visa is applicable to those who are going to travel onward to another country but would first like to stay in Suriname for a short while.

2. MKV Special Category Visa (Temporary stay)

Foreign nationals intending to remain in Suriname over and above the permitted 90 days must apply for a permit of temporary stay called the MKV. One cannot apply for the MKV while on a tourist/ business visa and vice versa.
