- Mauritania has vast, sun-bleached landscapes. It has the lowest population densities in the world. It has a cultural combination of Moors of Arab-Berber descent and black Africans. As Mauritania is a land about ocean and desert, it has an extreme temperatures and meagre rainfall. The days are very hot with night temperature sometimes reaching freezing points.
- Mauritania is generally safe but some areas like border areas lined by Algeria and Mali or area near Western Desert is notorious for banditry and jihadism. So, it’s advisable to travel in day, on major routes or in groups. Arabic is mostly used for all purposes in Mauritania, though people use French in some areas. There is a time difference of five and a half hours between India and Mauritania.
- One can take flights to Mauritania from India by Turkish Airlines and Emirates. The main international airports of Mauritania are Nouadhibou International Airport (NDB) and Nouakchott–Oumtounsy International Airport (NKC). People commute between cities by mini bus or bush taxis or trains. Unfortunately busses don’t run within the city so one can only rent a two or four wheeler.

- Mauritania is known for its Desert Oases. One can take a dip in the natural swimming pools amidst the palm groves in Terjit. Le Ksar Chinguettei’s ruins and libraries are famous for their rare manuscripts. Camel safaris in the dune fields of Tanouchert remote are also a must do tourist thing.
