  • Guyana is land of many waters and forest. The country is covered with wide expanse of Savannah and rich rainforest traversed with waterfalls and mountains. People wishing to travel to Guyana may visit any time of the year as the weather is usually pleasant with temperature fluctuating between 27oC to 28oC except four wet months namely May, June, December and January.
  • When in Guyana for nature trip make sure you have enough briefing from the wildlife guides on wildlife encounters on safety and precautions. Petty theft like pick pocketing is common in public transport and public areas so be extra cautions while travelling in road based public transports. It is not advisable to travel by road or in any public transport during night especially late hours in and around the town of George Town as the rate of mugging and forced theft at gunpoint is widespread. Woman travellers have to be highly cautious and may travel with male companion or in group as the incidence of rape is very high in the country. Travelling on own can be risky outside the capital city of Georgetown for safety reason as most of the country has no satellite coverage so it is advised to hire local travel agencies. Language is not an issue in the country as English is widely spoken. There is nearly nine and half hours difference between India and Guyana.
  • There is no direct flight between India and Guyana. However, several international flight operators offer connecting flights between major Indian cities with minimum two stops to Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Georgetown, Guyana. British Airways, Air France, Air India, Air Canada, Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic offer daily flights with or without layovers between Indian major cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Cabs are easily available from airport to the city centre. Buses also ply between airport and the city. If you wish to fly from George Town any other city, local airline operators are recommended like Air Guyana, Golden Arrow, and Jags Aviation etc.
  • What to see in Guyana?

  • The main tourist attraction is Guyana’s rich wildlife and remotely inhabited villages of indigenous communities. Adventure sports such as trekking, hiking and white water rafting, wild life safari are major indulgence. Community tourism including immersive community stay, tourism of conservation efforts in the region, food and festival are good reasons to travel to Guyana.
  • You can find nature at its pristine self in this land of savannah and thick rainforest. . The western part of Guyana, Lethem of Runununi region can be best explored by 4 X 4 vehicle or ATVs. Once in Lathem, you can trek to mountains, enter into the zones of waterfalls and springs and can camp for few days. These spots are rich in wildlife including Pumas, Jaguar and giant ant eaters. There is also good diversity of birds and butterflies as well.
  • On the southern part of Rupunini region is Saddle mountain where you can do horse riding in the savannahs and cross various mountain creeks. This region is also home to several ranches that houses cattle where you can relish home cooked meal prepared by the locals. White water rafting and kayaking is another sport that one can indulge in across several rivers mainly Takutu river. There are also tourist who operate survival tours. Hiking can be done on Awarmie, Surama and Iwokrama where you can reach the tree top by canopy walk. Kaieteur Waterfalls of Potaro River cannot be missed. There is mount Roraima that is widely visited and for its flat top. Mount Pakaraima is the most sorted destination for world 4 x 4 expedition. Kanuku Mountain is rich in wild life with nearly 150 species of mammals and similar strength of bird diversity. Within Georgetown the capital of Guyana, one can indulge in shopping at the Stabroek Market. The town is full of old world Dutch and English building such as St George's Cathedral, Parliament, Sea front, central park and 1763 monument of Slave revolt. Local food and nightlife can be enjoyed in the Capital centre.
