Mumbai the commercial and entertainment capital of India is also one of the world's top 10 centers of commerce. The city is the home to numerous financial institutions including the Reserve Bank of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange, the National Stock Exchange of India and SEBI.
Mumbai City District and Mumbai Suburban District forms two distinct regions of Mumbai. It can also be considered as two separate revenue districts of Maharashtra. The total area of Mumbai is 603.4 square kilometers. The sub urban district spans over 370 square kilometers and the island city spans over 67.79 square kilometers. These are under the administration of Brihan Municipal Corporation. The remaining area comes under defence, Mumbai Port Trust, Atomic Energy Commission and Borivali National Park.
Mumbai sits on a seismically active zone. The area is classified as Seismic Zone III region which means an earthquake up to a magnitude of 6.5 Richter scale is possible n the area.
