Is one day enough? 85.4% of travellers seem to think so, with day-trip bookings up 110.7%.
Long holidays aren’t the only way to see more of a destination. A growing number of travellers are now squeezing new experiences into a single day, turning nearby towns, countryside escapes and cultural spots into easy additions to their itineraries. This shift is putting day trips firmly on the radar as a fastest growing travel trend in 2026.

Why Day Trips Are Gaining Attention
The trend is being driven by travellers looking for flexibility without adding several nights to a trip. A recent survey by The Tour Guy found that 85.4% of travellers who visited Europe in the previous 12 months opted for day trips. The company also reported a 110.7% year-over-year increase in day-trip bookings in 2026.
This day trip travel style lets visitors explore beyond major tourist hubs while keeping the same base. Travellers can start with a convenient flight booking, choose their stay through online hotel bookings, and spend the day discovering nearby attractions without changing accommodation.

The same survey found that 64.9% of respondents enjoyed visiting countryside, seaside and natural areas outside major cities. This growing preference also gives travellers more flexibility to add short trips without changing their entire holiday plan.
If you like things planned for you, all-inclusive tour packages make it easy to add a few nearby places to your trip. Quick getaways are now so common that many people spend a day at a nearby spot instead of staying the whole time in one place.
