The news daily commuters travelling from Aarey JVLR to BKC have been excitedly waiting for is here! Mumbai’s first underground metro has finally opened its doors for a quick and comfortable, air-conditioned travel experience.
The marvellous Aqua Line Metro Mumbai Phase 1 opened to the public beginning with the inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last Saturday, 5th October 2024, by taking a ride on the train from the BKC Santacruz and back.

Mumbai Metro Line 3 Stations
Phase 1 of the underground Mumbai Metro Line 3 covers 12.96 km with direct access from Aarey Colony on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road and Bandra Kurla Complex. This line covers ten stations currently and will increase to 27 stops when the next phase is complete.
Currently, as per the Mumbai Metro Line 3 status, the metro stations open to access are:
- BKC
- Bandra Colony
- Santacruz
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) T1
- Sahar Road
- CSMIA T2
- Marol Naka
- Andheri
- SEEPZ
- Aarey Colony, which is a grade-level station.
The Mumbai Metro 3 begins at Sant Dnyaneshwar Marg in BKC and can get you right up to Aarey Colony. Its construction is strategically planned to connect people from the CSMIA Terminals 1 and 2 directly to the Ghatkopar Versova metro line from Marol Naka Station.
It can get you from start to finish in less than an hour, as the metro moves at an average speed of 35 kmph! Its operational speed is 85 kilometres per hour.

Mumbai Metro Line 3 Timings

On the first day of operation, the Mumbai Metro Line 3 was open to access from 11 am, with the last train departing at 8.30 pm.
From 8th October 2024, the Mumbai Metro Line 3 is available from 6.30 am to 10.30 pm on weekdays and from 8.30 am to 10.30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Nine trains will run per day, making 96 trips back and forth from Mondays to Saturdays, with a time gap of 6.40 minutes during rush hours. You can board a metro every 15 to 20 minutes during non-peak hours in the early morning and afternoon.
Currently, the metro has eight coaches that can carry 2,500 passengers in one trip, and the estimated number for the Mumbai Metro Line 3 Phase 1 ridership is four lakh!
Affordable Ticket Prices
If you’ve travelled by the other metros in Mumbai before, you will agree with the majority that they are quite affordable. The same goes for the new underground Mumbai Metro Line 3!
The ticket prices range from ₹10 to ₹50, depending on the distance you travel. When phase 2 of the line is complete, the maximum fee for the metro will be ₹70.
How to Book tickets for Mumbai Metro Line 3?
You can book your tickets from counters at any metro station. However, it is easier to book your tickets online using the Metro Connect 3 App! It is available on iPhone and Android devices and was launched on 5th October by the Prime Minister along with the inauguration of the metro services.
This Mumbai Metro Line 3 app is the best way to purchase your tickets online; however, if you are unable to purchase from the app, you can do so directly from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited website!
Mumbai Metro Line 3 Phase 2: Estimated Details
The Phase 1 is complete at present. The Mumbai Metro Line 3 completion date, including phase two of this project connecting BKC to Colaba, is estimated to be ready by May 2025. The work is almost complete, except for stations at Worli and Girgaon. The DMRC says that the Mumbai Metro Line 3 going up to Colaba will be ready by March 2025 but will take a while to open because of testing. In total, the metro will then cover a distance of 33.5 km!
Once the construction of Mumbai Metro Line 3 is complete, it is estimated to carry over 13 lakh passengers daily, hence reducing pollution and traffic.

Commuters expected the Station to be near Picnic Point, but it stands on the JVLR highway. There have also been complaints about the dangerous road-crossing conditions and the presence of no streetlamps on the highway.
