On May 2, 2026, India set a Guinness World Record for the largest national flag unfurled underwater at Radhanagar Beach on Swaraj Dweep in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, marking a proud moment for the country.

The event saw a massive 60 x 40 metre tricolour unfurled beneath the sea. A team of 223 divers, including Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Andaman and Nicobar Police, Forest Department and local diving centres, executed the operation to display the world’s largest underwater national flag.
Lt Governor Admiral (Retd) Devendra Kumar Joshi also joined the dive, making the unfurling of the world’s largest underwater national flag a coordinated national effort.
Officials said the world’s largest underwater national flag highlights discipline and coordination, while also being the largest national flag underwater ever displayed globally. Since it was a temporary installation, it was removed after the event. However, travellers taking cheap flights to Port Blair can still visit Radhanagar Beach, where the record was set.
