If you’re applying for an Australia visa from India, expect a bit more at the identity stage. Under the new biometric collection rule, some Indian applicants will now have to give extra personal details so officials can confirm who they say they are. The idea is simple: cut down on identity fraud and make visa screening harder to game.

Under the biometric data rules for Indians, applicants may need to visit one of 16 collection centres or use the Australian Immi App if eligible. The biometrics collection process includes providing fingerprints and a facial image. This biometric rule is not expected to cause delays if applicants complete the required steps on time. The biometric collection process is designed to make identity checks more secure.

Most visa delays come from small things: an unread message or a step put off for a week. If you’re applying for Australia from India, don’t let the biometric collection become that step. Watch for instructions from the immigration department and do what they ask promptly.

How can I check the status of my visa application online?
You can easily track your application status and see if they need any more documents by logging into your online ImmiAccount.

What are the common reasons for visa rejection?
