Mumbai Airport T1 Redevelopment: What Is Changing?

The Mumbai Airport T1 redevelopment plan aims to make room for future growth at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). IndiGo and Air India Group will gradually move selected flights to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), starting in December 2026. The transition is expected to continue into 2027, with the wider redevelopment plan targeting 2030. This change will help manage airport capacity as air travel grows. 

IndiGo To Move Selected International Flights

Under the plan, IndiGo will move 12 daily international departures to NMIA. The airline serves destinations such as Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta. It also plans to introduce a daily Kathmandu service. IndiGo international flights from NMIA are expected to expand between February and July 2027, taking its network to 12 destinations.

The airline also plans to move supporting domestic flights so passengers can connect between domestic and international services at the new airport. These flights shifting to Navi Mumbai Airport will free up capacity at the existing Mumbai airport for more international services.

Air India Express To Shift Selected Operations

Air India Express will begin with four daily domestic flights from NMIA in December 2026. From January 2027, the airline plans to add services to Kuwait and continue existing services to Oman from the new airport. It will then gradually move selected flights serving Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah.

The Air India Express operations shift from Mumbai is expected to be completed by the Northern Summer 2027 season. The wider Navi Mumbai Airport flight shift will take place in stages rather than all at once.
