Schengen Visa Goes Digital

The European Union is making big changes to the way people apply for a Schengen visa. By 2028, the Schengen visa will become fully digital. This means you won’t need to fill out paper forms or get a sticker in your passport. With the new system, you can fill out your application and upload your documents online. If your visa is approved, you will get a digital barcode that you can show at the airport when you arrive in Europe. Starting September 2, 2025, the US will end most non-immigrant US visa interview waivers. This means nearly all applicants, including students, must attend in-person interviews at US consulates.
