AIR TANZANIA

Air Tanzania

The national airline of Tanzania, Air Tanzania, is based at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam (DAR). The airline runs regular passenger flights to the principal Tanzanian airports, including Kigoma Airport and Julius Nyerere – Dar es Salaam International Airport (DAR) (TKQ).

In order to resume the flights that had been halted after East African Airways, which Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya jointly owned, split up, the airline was founded in March 1977. After terminating its five-year cooperation with the massive South African Airways, Air Tanzania reopened in 2007. In 2016, the Tanzanian government bought several new planes, including a Bombardier Q400, as part of its announcement that it would invest in restoring the national airline.

The airline launched new services to Mumbai, India, and Johannesburg, South Africa, in the summer of 2019. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and the Airbus A220-300 of airlines fly these routes in their entirety.

Currently, the airline connects Tanzania’s major cities and cultural centers with a wide-ranging network. Code-sharing agreements exist between Air Tanzania and Air Zimbabwe.
