Mumbai (officially known as Bombay until 1995) is the capital city of Maharashtra, an Indian state. With a population of almost 20 million people. Mumbai is located on India’s west coast, on the Konkan coast, and boasts a deep natural harbor. Mumbai was named an alpha world city in 2008.

After Delhi, it is the country’s second busiest airport in terms of total and international passenger traffic, and in calendar year 2019, it was Asia’s 14th busiest airport and the world’s 41st busiest airport by passenger traffic. Spend a day exploring the Kanheri Caves in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, a collection of structures carved out of basalt strata roughly 2,000 years ago. Large stupas, meeting places, and prayer halls can be found inside the 109 cave entrances, indicating that this was once a significant Buddhist site. On the ceiling of cave 34, look for the Buddha’s incomplete paintings.

Mahalakshmi Temple: The Mahalakshmi Temple is one of Mumbai’s most famous and oldest temples. This temple, dedicated to Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of riches, draws crowds through its elaborate entrance and into the shrine where the statue is kept. Other deities with gold jewelry, such as Tridevi (the patron deity of music and education) and Kali (the goddess of destruction), will be visible to visitors.
