About Mangalore
Mangalore, also known as Mangaluru, is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka and a significant port city. It is 352 kilometers (219 miles) west of Bangalore, the state capital, 20 kilometers north of the Karnataka–Kerala border, and 297 kilometers south of Goa. Mangalore is the only city in the state with access to all four modes of transportation: air, road, train, and sea. According to India’s 2011 national census, the population of the urban agglomeration was 619,664. It is well-known as one of the sites of India’s strategic petroleum reserves.
The city began as a port on the Arabian Sea in ancient times, and it has since grown into a significant Indian port that handles 75 percent of the country’s coffee and cashew exports, as well as being the country’s sixth largest container port. Several great powers have ruled Mangalore, including the Kadambas, Alupas, Vijayanagar Empire, Keladi Nayaks, and Portuguese. The city was a point of struggle between the British and the rulers of the Kingdom of Mysore, Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, until the British captured it in 1799. Mangalore was a part of the Madras Presidency until 1947, when it was merged with Mysore State (now Karnataka) to form Karnataka.

Mangalore International Airport (IATA: IXE, ICAO: VOML) is a major international airport serving Mangalore, India’s coastal metropolis. It is one of Karnataka’s two international airports, the other being Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport. Mangalore International Airport is Karnataka’s second busiest airport. In addition to domestic destinations, flights to major Middle Eastern cities depart on a daily basis. When the airport first opened on December 25, 1951, it was named Bajpe Aerodrome, and former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru arrived aboard a Douglas DC-3 plane.
Mangalore Airport currently has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
Terminal 1: This is the airport’s domestic terminal, with flights to all important cities including as Mangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Surat. Airlines such as Air India, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines, and SpiceJet operate these services.
Terminal 2: Located near the previous airport, this is the airport’s international terminal. Flights to the Middle East depart from this terminal. Kuwait, Dubai, Bahrain, Muscat, and Abu Dhabi are all served from this airport. Air India Express now operates international flights from this airport.
