Continue to a working tea estate for a guided walk, then Mattupetty Dam and lake, Echo Point and the Tea Museum as time allows. | Thekkady

Leave Munnar after breakfast for Thekkady, dropping out of tea country into the cardamom hills. Check in around midday, then walk a working spice plantation in the afternoon — cardamom, pepper, clove, nutmeg, vanilla and coffee.

Early morning boat ride on the Periyar reservoir — the best hour for wildlife along the shoreline. Then descend to Alleppey and board your private houseboat around midday.
