Besides the beach, Ganapatipule is an important pilgrimage centre. The temple of ‘Swayambhu Ganapati’ is known for its unique idol of Lord Ganapati and its glorious temple ('Swayambhu' or self-originated, not man-made). It is built on a colossal rock on the shore and much frequented by local and international tourists every year. God is considered to be the Paschim Dwardevta (Western direction God). This enormous temple is one of its kinds and one cannot miss out on the architectural exuberance of this monument. Devotees and visitors from all over the world visit this holy place to offer their homage to the deity here. Most pilgrims also believe in taking a 'pradakshina' around the hill instead of just the temple.
