By Air:

Himachal is home to three main airport i.e. Shimla Airport, Bhuntar Airport (Kullu) and Kangra Airport. Spice Jet, Indigo, GoAir and Air India are some of the airlines that offer flight services to these airports. Located close to Dharamsala, the Kangra Airport is sometimes also referred to as the Dharamsala Airport.

If travelling to Manali then the Bhuntar Airport (also known as Kullu Airport), located about 50 km from Manali is the nearest airport. It takes nearly 60 to 90 minutes to reach Manali from the Airport. Situated on the banks of river Beas, the Bhuntar Airport lies in the small town of Bhuntar in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Next closest airport is at Chandigarh which is about 300 km from Manali.

By Train: Manali in Himachal does not have a railway station. The nearest railhead is the Joginder Nagar railway station (JDNX) situated at a distance of around 165 km from Manali. However this journey isn’t recommended as the station is connected with only one passenger train to Pathankot, & not with any other city. Instead travel to the Anandpur Railway Station, which is located 240 km away from Manali and is conveniently connected to Delhi, Chandigarh and other major cities of India. After arriving in Anandpur, a road trip to Manali will be take 7 to 8 hours by car or bus.

By Road: Travelling by bus to Himachal is also a scenic trip. There are several state-run buses as well as private tourist vehicles operating services between Delhi to major cities of Himachal daily. Delhi to Manali distance is 537 km. Frequent buses to Kullu Manali are also available from Chandigarh and Pathankot.

Solang Valley

Precisely, a high mountain pass on the Eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas connecting the Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys of Himachal Pradesh and is known as the gateway to Lahaul, Spiti and Ladakh regions. Located at a walking distance from the main town and city centre of Manali, Manali wildlife sanctuary is one of the most beautiful and easily accessible wildlife sanctuaries in the whole state of Himachal. This sanctuary was established in 1954 and is spread over 3,180 hectares of land. It’s a very beautiful park, perfect for the vacationing family. Tourists can do a lot of things here that involve wildlife; nature walks etc. These reptiles, birds, animals and mammals are regular spotting here. That makes it perfect for visiting animal lovers for viewing and photography. Regular wild animals roaming around the sanctuary are Himalayan Black Bear, Flying Fox, Musk Deer, Himalayan Tahr, Barking Deer, Palm Civet, Stripped Hyena, Himalayan Yellow Throated Martens, and Kashmir Flying Squirrels. Old Manali

A place where two worlds meet, Old Manali is a place that has an exotic charm in itself.

Old Manali is where you can experience the hippie culture in its full glory. The old town is located around 3 km away from Manali town across Manalsu Nala, from where you can get to see the entire view of the town. While latter is one of the busiest summer destinations in India, the former is a breath of fresh air. It builds a special presence in the heart of all visitors. Geographically, the only thing that separates Old Manali and Manali is the Beas River but there is a complete change of scene after you cross the river. The neighbourhood brims with quaint cafes, bakeries and shops selling traditional handicrafts, jewellery and dream catchers.

Hadimba Temple

Hadimba Temple, built in the 16th century, is one of the most serene places to visit in Manali. It is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hadimba Devi, wife of Bhima, who was a character in the Indian epic, Mahābhārata. Due to its association with Indian Epic Mahabharata, the Hidimba Devi Temple is a charm of your Manali holiday. Located in the foot of the Himalayas, the temple is surrounded by pristine cedar forests ((Dhungri Van Vihar). The sanctuary was built in 1552 over a huge rock jutting out of the forest floor and is a popular stop on every Manali tour package and Manali honeymoon package. The wooden doors of this old-world shrine display images of Goddess Durga, while the temple base is made out of whitewashed stonework. The construction style of the Hadimba-temple is entirely different from all the other temples, with its wooden doorways, walls, and cone-shaped roof.

Great Himalayan National Park

The Great Himalayan National Park fuels the wanderlust of many backpackers. Millions of travelers seek out adventures among the peaks of the Himalayas every year.

Located in Kullu region in the state of Himachal Pradesh, the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) is one of the most popular national parks of India. Established back in the year 1984, the National Park is spread over an area of 1,171 km2 at an elevation of 1500 to 6000m. It was declared a UNESCO Heritage site in 2014 for its outstanding significance in Biodiversity Conservation. The Park encompasses of the upper catchments areas of the Tirthan, Sainj, Parvati and the Jiwa Rivers – all are tributaries of the Beas River. 

Both short to moderate and high altitudinal trekking options are available inside the Park. The trek trails lead through distinctive mountain passes, wildlife-filled forests, idyllic meadows and glacial valleys. Interestingly, the GHNP is home to over 1,000 plant species, many medicinal herbs, 31 species of mammals, 300 species of birds, amphibians, reptiles, and insects. Beas Kund

Offering nostalgia and natural splendour in equal measure, Beas Kund tugs at the heartstrings. The origin of the Beas River, Beas Kund is a high altitude glacial lake situated in the Dhauladhar range (literally ‘the white range’) of the mighty Himalayas. Beas is named after Rishi (Sage) Beas and Kund is hindi word for tiny lake. This place is considered sacred by people belonging to the Hindu religion, as they believe this river is where legendary sage Vyas used to take bath during those mythical period. Bir Billing is a drop-dead gorgeous village to visit all year round. Resting in the picturesque Dhaulandar ranges of the Himalayas of Himachal Pradesh, Bir Billing is a hotspot for serenity, relaxation and adventure and is known as the paragliding capital of India.
