About SRI LANKAN AIRLINES
Sri Lankan Airlines (previously Air Lanka) is Sri Lanka's national carrier and a member of the One world airline alliance. It was founded in 1979 as Air Lanka following the demise of the previous Sri Lankan flag carrier Air Ceylon. It is currently the largest airline in Sri Lanka in terms of aircraft and destinations. It was re-branded and the current livery was applied after it was partially acquired by Emirates in 1998. The government of Sri Lanka purchased all of the airline's shares from Emirates in 2008. It kept its redesigned name and logo after the Emirates agreement ended. Sri Lankan Airlines flies around 560 times a week throughout Asia.
The airline's primary hub, Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo, serves 113 destinations in 51 countries (including codeshare operations). On May 1, 2014, Sri Lankan Airlines joined the One world airline alliance. Sri Lankan Airlines' fleet consists of 24 aircrafts as of September 2020, with 5 Airbus A320-200, 2 Airbus A320neo, and 7 Airbus A330-300 planes.
